B Corp Certification Explained
Some of our customers know that Raining Rose is a Certified B Corporation®, a designation we’ve been proud to have since February 2016. But what does that mean, and why does it matter?
B Corp certification, given by the non-profit B Lab, goes beyond evaluating a product or service — it speaks to the holistic impact of the company that’s behind it. Companies with this certification achieve a minimum score on the B Impact Assessment, an in-depth analysis of a business’s impact on its employees, customers, community, and the environment. This assessment then gets compiled into a B Impact Report — you can see ours here.
The company’s individual score is shared on www.bcorporation.net, which demonstrates public transparency — one of the key attributes used to evaluate certification, along with social performance, environmental performance, and legal accountability. As for the latter, B Corps are actually required to have their legal documents and board of directors balance profit with purpose.
More and more, customers want the companies that produce the goods and services they purchase to truly care about what they do — to make a positive impact on the world around them rather than simply capture their consumer dollars. Third-party validation plays a vital role in ensuring that companies can accurately claim this honest way of doing business.
In addition, the world’s toughest challenges need the help of for-profit companies to decrease poverty levels, lessen inequality, promote a healthier environment, strengthen local communities, and create more high-quality jobs focused on integrity and purpose. To put it another way, B Corps are sparking a global culture shift that redefines what it means to succeed in business, and in doing so, building a more sustainable economy. They’re setting the gold standard for good business and performing at levels that inspire others to keep up — all across the globe.
The B Corp movement continues to grow, with 2,655 companies in 150 industries across 60 countries now using the B Corp values to lead the way.
Every day, we make choices about what to buy, where to work, and who to do business with. Raining Rose wants to be a company that uses business as a force for good.
